As if a heart syndrome is not bad enough for some people to be born with, or acquire some other coronary problem, there are heart complications that in some cases need also to be taken care of. Complications of congestive heart failure are not unheard of and need to be cared with extra attention. Heart surgery complications or heart transplant complications needs also to be taken into considerations as patients suffering from any or all of this conditions are very weak and often very sickly too.
Heart related complications depend on the locations of the muscle damage, be it the right or left ventricle. Also the extent of the damage done to the coronary system is very important in the evaluation ad treatment of the complications that might arise. Another important factor is the time since the heart attack occurred, be it days, weeks or months later that the complications started.
This complications we are talking about might include, but are not limited to:
* Arrhythmia or Abnormal Heart Rhythm: Major cause of death following a heart attack. An early application of electrical shocks to the heart (defibrillaton) by paramedics or rescue workers, combined with an early detection and treatment of any arrhythmia in coronary subjects dramatically reduced both pre and in-hospital deaths caused by arrhythmia.
* Recurrent Ischemia: Some heart attack patients have experienced pain after the initial attack known as "post infarction angina", also experienced as a heart transplant complication. This term is used to describe the choking, constricting sensation experienced the chest of some heart attack individuals. This patients have an increased risk for a subsequent heart attack called re infarction, because the pain described here is due to the fact that remaining blood flow to the heart muscle is inadequate. An aggressive treatment of angina following any heart attack will greatly help to reduce the risk of a subsequent heart attack. Patients who experience such complications usually undergo immediate cardiac catheterization (Insertion of a catheter -fine tube- into an artery in the forearm or groin).
* Complications of congestive heart failure: Damage to heart muscle after an attack will likely leave it unable to pump blood effectively throughout the hole body of a person. These patients likely experience shortness of breath due to the fact that there is fluid in through lung airways caused by the fact that the heart cannot effectively pump blood forward through the body. This condition may require cardiac bypass surgery and may lead to other heart surgery complications.
* Thrombus Formation (Blood Clots): Abnormal blood flow in parts of the heart damaged by the attack can cause various clots to form in the heart's inner chambers, especially if the heart attack has involved the left ventricle or when an aneurysm been developed.
It is bad enough to already have had a mayor coronary disease strike your health, but patients also need to be in the look out for other heart complications that might attack their health in order to fully recover back to a normal, productive life.
